VetBiz Central, A Veteran Business Outreach Center (VBOC)
The Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) for Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio provides confidential, no-cost, one-on-one small business consulting to Veterans of all eras, military spouses, active-duty service members, Reservists, and National Guard members. Support is offered in person, virtually, by phone, email, or webinar to help clients start, sustain, or expand their businesses.
What is the VBOC Program?
The Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) program delivers entrepreneurial development services including business training, counseling, and referrals to service members, veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, military spouses, and family members seeking to launch or grow a small business. The SBA operates 28 VBOCs nationwide through cooperative agreements.
How VBOC Supports Your Small Business
VBOCs offer workshops, training, counseling, and mentorship. They also guide entrepreneurs through SBA’s network of resource partners and connect them with community partners, lenders, and SBA programs.
Core Services Provided by VBOC
Transition Assistance Programs (TAP):
VBOCs partner with SBA District Offices and Transition Service Managers to deliver Boots to Business and Boots to Business Reboot training for service members, veterans, and military spouses.
Pre-Business Plan Workshops:
Workshops that address key aspects of self-employment, including using the internet to build and grow a business. Each participant receives individualized time with a business counselor.
Concept Assessments:
Assistance in evaluating the feasibility and requirements of a business idea.
Business Plan Development:
Support in building and maintaining a five-year business plan, including legal formation, equipment needs, organizational structure, strategic planning, market analysis, and financial projections.
Comprehensive Feasibility Analysis:
Review of business plans to identify strengths and weaknesses, and guidance on refining strategy to increase success.
Entrepreneurial Training & Counseling:
Targeted training and counseling tailored to the needs of veteran entrepreneurs, including service-disabled veterans, women veterans, and those interested in government contracting.
Mentorship:
On-site visits and ongoing review of financial statements to ensure progress and alignment with the business plan.
Additional Business Development Services:
Training and support in areas such as international trade, franchising, internet marketing, accounting, and more.
